Jesmond was originally known as Dark Creek. The area developed from the landowner’s steam saw mills and employment in local orchards, quarries and mines.

Jesmond is now home to a variety of facilities that make it a convenient residential area, and has become a multicultural area due to many international university students living in the suburb. Families and the aging also call Jesmond home and with specific aged housing facilities in the area this make’s Jesmond very suitable to many varying needs.

The suburb provides a commercial centre with a number of mixed businesses as well as a large shopping complex, Stockland Mall.

Public bus transport service’s the area and is located close to the F3 freeway. There are a number of schools located through out the area and although there is no region library branch in Jesmond, Wallsend library is nearby.

If sport and recreational facilities are what you are looking for than the parks and reserves in the area provide large open space’s with children’s equipment, cycle and walk ways, picnic areas and a skate ramp.
