Georgetown is a small village type suburb close to Newcastle’s CBD & beaches. It is part of the fabric of Newcastle’s rich working history. It began as a residential area for workers from industries like Goninans. By 1880 Georgetown was described as a prosperous village. According to the 2006 census there are 1857 people living in 888 dwellings.

A tranquil leafy suburb well positioned for public transport with a number of bus routes frequenting the suburb & Waratah train station next door. The local shopping strip, offers a place where you can dash out and grab fresh produce or a snack, and major shopping centres are close by. Several schools are located in the adjoining suburbs to Maryville, as is Newcastle University and the NSW Tafe/College.
