Cardiff is located at the northern end of Lake Macquarie and is central to both the western and eastern areas of the city. Bus routes and rail links provide easy access to other Lake Macquarie centers, as well as Newcastle and Sydney.

Cardiff contains one of the largest industrial estates in the Lower Hunter. The industrial park occupies over 100 hectares of industrial land and houses and more than 500 businesses. A diverse range of industries is present including transport, engineering, mining, and food manufacturing.

Many families, working couples and the aged find this area to be central to all there needs, Cardiff Village Shopping Centre is located along the main northern railway line and provides for local retail needs. The centre has strengthened considerably in the past few years with the provision of business services and specialist medical services.

There is a strong presence of car dealerships in this area, and located near to F3 Freeway, and with the train station and express stop you can get about easily to and from this suburb.
